He is survived by his daughter Michelle Lieberg, sons Brian (Shelly) Lieberg and Matthew Lieberg, grandson Chevy (Haley) and great grandson Leo. He is also survived by his brothers Earl Lieberg, Eugene (Diane) Lieberg, sisters Earline Christensen and Elaine Ginder, sister-in-law Sue (Don) Kempen and brother-in-law Ron Magadanz, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, his parents, stepfather Rolland Welke, brothers-in-law Richard Ginder, Keith Christensen, James Frendel, nephew Jeffrey Ginder, mother and father-in-law Willard and Frances Backe, sister-in-law Jean Jore, brother-in-law Steve Jore, and sister-in-law Mary Magadanz. He was also preceded in death by his best friend of many years Jim Gruen. Greg enjoyed the companionship of seven cats during his adult life.
After his wife Nancy passed away, Greg focused his time on hobbies he really enjoyed. This included Virtual Reality simulation racing with his son Matt, decorating model race cars, and using a microscope to look at the wonders of the microscopic world.
Greg took great pride in the fact that he served 31 years for the Eau Claire County Sherriff's Office. In his career he served as Jailor, Huber Officer, Lieutenant and finally Captain, where he helped oversee two different expansions to the Eau Claire County Jail.
Greg had a great love of animals. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, all memorials should be directed to the Eau Claire County Humane Association.
A memorial service for Greg will take place at 1 pm on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Hulke Family Funeral Home. Memorial visitation will take place at the funeral home on that day from 11 am until the time of service. Greg will be laid to rest next to his late wife Nancy at Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington at a later date.
